Anza Borrego

Hiking to the remote Carrizo Palms

Join us as we hike to the remote Carrizo Palms in Carrizo Gorge. This hike starts at the East Fork in Carrizo Gorge and follows the canyon below the Carrizo Gorge Railway home to the famous Goat Canyon Trestle.

We parked the Land Cruiser and prepped for the hike up the remote canyon.

Beautiful sunny morning as we began our hike up the East Fork of Carrizo Gorge.

Most of the way to the palm grove is uphill, which fortunately meant we would have a downhill trek back the the Land Cruiser.

Found one Mylar balloon on the way up. Unfortunately Mylar balloons can take years to biodegrade.

Not sure what kind of footprint this was.

It is good to be back in Anza Borrego. This one actually stuck in pretty deep. 😫

After a two hour trek up the East Fork we arrived at the Carrizo Palms.

Plenty of water below the palms full of tiny tadpoles and water bugs.

The only sound we heard was the rustling of the palms as the warm desert breeze funneled thru the canyon.

Apparently the Carrizo Palm grove is one of the largest in Anza Borrego. I am guessing it is also one of the most remote.

Exploring the palm grove.

The brilliant blue desert sky made a nice contrast to the healthy green palm leaves.
