Has anyone been on the road to Mountain Palm Springs camp? The web site https://www.parks.ca.gov/?page_id=638 says it's very sandy and 4X4 only. I wanted to take my RPOD trailer there towards the end of the this month. Is the road really that bad?

Have not been on that road specifically but I would not doubt it....Carrizo was really bad a couple weeks ago and the general trend this year is it is more sandy were there is sand.

OK, thanks. The road to Bow Willow campground is open to 2WD so may just go there.

Carrizo is bad as soon as you exit off S2, its that way for about 2 miles. Pulled a 4x4 out which got stuck about 500ft off of S2 .

I was there on Thanksgiving and had no trouble in my 4runner. I imagine it should be tamped down enough now for a trailer. Only real place I could see you getting squirely is turning in from the S-2 so maybe try not to cut it too sharp on the turn.

Carrizo sort of reminds me of the east side of the Salton Sea. People just like to drive down the beach so to speak. Once they break through that crust into the gloppy stuff its all over. If you know how to drive in soft sand you'll have no issues. I was out there a couple weeks ago nothing packed down yet. Didnt need to use 4 wheel drive either.
