Did a short hike. Dropped down to Devils Canyon, followed it up to its origin. Followed the south side of Jacumba Mountain until the mesa dropped away. We have been hacking out a trail down to Monterol Plalms. We got within 1.5 miles of our gps marker on the upper south side of Montero. If wasn't for the late start we would have gone down to the small valley.
Exiting Devils canyon
Devils canyon starts here.
End of Mesa north side, before dropping down. Theres another small valley below about 1/2 mile.
View of small valley below. Next year I'll hit the valley and go over the ridge to the west. Should put be close to the gps marker.
We followed the ridge of east mesa for a while , then zig-zagged back. Only about 5 miles, temps were in the mid 70's slight breeze .

Was finally looking at the map trying to figure out where you were hiking....not seeing where Devils leads to Mortero Palms. Did you drive into Table Mtn area and park off one of the north forks and hike from there? That is definitely a neat area very few people visit.

Devils doesn't lead to Montero, it though starts in the east mesa area of Table Mountain. I didnt spend as much time as I wanted to this season in this area. Got sidetracked with some hikes in the Carrizo creek area thanks to some of Tommy's posts. Heres a google cut out. The peak in the center is Jacumba. The white track is what I need to complete. Perhaps next year.

The season went to fast. Seemed to be a bit warmer than usual. But found some new places to poke around in. Can't wait till next year.
