Placeholder for a trip report...last winter I hiked in a mining trail from the S. to a few mines, and once from the N, but did not reach mines.
I will upload pictures later, remind me if I forget. @britain
I want to explore more to the Western parts of the area this winter, as well as the Coyote mntns. I have an itch for the off-trail, less traveled places.
For now, it's the Santa Rosas and hopefully San Jacinto for the first time by way of Marion soon.

Second the notion of the Mountains. That's what the Cahuilla did! San Jacinto via Marion is a neat route. Didn't bring my ol' 35mm SLR on that trip. It's a more gradual climb as I remember. You can stop at the top of the granite monolith opposing mighty Tahquitz.
