We took an overnight wildflower hunting trip to Indian Valley and ended up driving back to Julian up the Mason Valley Truck Trail.

While the flowers weren't quite as prolific as last year there was still plenty to see.

We ended up taking the jeep trail up through Oriflamme Canyon to the Mason Valley Truck Trail and ended up in Banner, just below Julian. Really beautiful area.

Great pics Bob. How were the switchbacks on the trail up from the desert? I haven't been in the southern part for a while but it looks nice down that way. I really like the close up of the middle of the plant.

Hey David,
I would recommend 4wd since it is a pretty steep ascent and some of the sections are a bit narrow.
I think it would be a great area to camp during the hotter months since it is at elevation.
I wouldn't take a big camper but your jeep would do great.

We used to do an Ultra Race (Lost Boys 50) that went from Pinyon Wash to Green Valley in Cuyamaca. The course went up Oriflamme and I can remember one race when a million jeeps came roaring up the canyon, it was a dusty mess.

It is really interesting to see how much more green your Ocotillos have then when I was out there 2 weeks ago, the green was just starting to come out on them when I was there.
Is this Indian Paintbrush?

That would be a hard run. Lot of climbing. We saw one Mountain Biker that seemed surprised to see us.
Funny I was telling Mary "I think this is Indian Paintbrush".
Not totally positive though
