Bob, here you go...This is a must do!
Decided to use a "sick day" today and headed out to finally check out the Goat Canyon Trestle. I mounted my video camera on my helmet and took some awesome videos, but for some reason I can't upload them to youtube....I will try and get them uploaded later an add another post. The ride is not for the faint of heart as much of it takes place on a single track right on the edge of the cliff! I think there is a video on youtube of a guy taking the plunge over one of the cliffs on his MTB bike. Weather was perfect. I thought the ride back to De Anza would be tough, but pretty easy.
Decided to stop here and pay my respects and also say a little prayer venturing out solo
Which way to go????
watch out for the particle board
Yeah made it!
Caved in tunnel
so many tunnels, glad I brought a flashlight! Make sure you bring a powerful one! The tunnels make you feel like you are on the pirates of the caribbean ride, and a bit spooky!
Stopped at the Gas Station after the ride and had to grab a 24oz Sierra Nevada! Great Trip

Yep, looks like you hit all the stops. I love the funky green in the trains. I know last year we put plywood over the hole also, looks like it broke thru again. That is a great ride and your right about the lights, you need to bring some!
Was there water running down thru some of the longer tunnels?
I think my perspective of the crosses was a little different....

The ground was very moist through the longer tunnels, but nothing flowing on the surface. I didn't stop to check it out.
Pretty funny on the cross pic with the scat

Nice. Did you see anyone out there? Yeah I am planning on bringing some type of helmet light
I haven't seen the second train in person, only from Daren's pictures. How long was your ride, and where did you turn around?

Bob,
I turned around at the trestle. The mileage is around 7-8 miles. I made all the stops on the way there and it took about 2 hours.
There was 1 other mtb biker at the trestle who said he lives in de anza.

Jim,
I took Daren's advice and parked under the freeway, right before the de anza rv park.

Just a little train trivia as I'm kind of a new railfan as well as a weekend hiker. The first picture of trains there you see a train marked 7773. I believe at least two of those trains have been sold. In the meeting minutes for SD & AE they mentioned that the buyer of the trains would like them delivered, or would like a refund. So if you notice any cabs missing that's probably the explanation. I think someone else noticed a cab was missing, but I'm not sure which one. The montreal cars probably belong to the Mexican tourist train, so those might be re-claimed after the track is up and running. Just sayin'
