Here's a bus. The wheel broke off.

Here's the same place. My friend is guiding his wife up out of the hole. This location is under the first bridge coming out of the desert on hwy 8

No overlay, I'm out of position on the shot.

No details yet but a very, very sad day....Ranger Steve will be missed by the many that knew him.

Headed out last week for some hot spring soaking in Desert Hot springs at the request of my wife. Also visited with some retiree friends in Borrego springs. On the way back to the coast, heading Into the "Storm" I took this photo heading up Montezuma grade.

Bob, I take it that Whitney is worthwhile even with the crowds, since you are going for a 3rd ascent! I've never done it and am thinking about Langley instead.

I second that Bob, thanks for putting all the work into the best little forum about Anza Borrego out there.

Planning on doing Domeland/carrizo badlands tomorrow with my son and nephew.

We have done this hike a few times and have good familiarity with the wind caves, many of the various fossils (including the 3 giant urchin like shells) and the slot canyon into the badlands.

We plan to stay in the Penthouse Cave if it is available.

I am interested in other interesting things to do in the area. I have heard there is a giant chock rock in the area that is worth seeing.

Does anyone know where the chock rock is or have other recommendations for us to check out?

Yeah, great site! I am always picking up new info and new places to go. I would expect with all the rain we are getting, it should be a great spring bloom.

APIs and services from most providers evolve for whatever reasons and unfortunately require ongoing maintenance. I had to move all my stuff out of photobucket when they changed the terms of service. Google photos has good integration with their free blogger service, but it is not as sophisticated as wordpress.

For some I reason I can't remember now, I missed that whole Flowergeddon mess, instead I remember enjoying the blooms closer to home. There were several local AB events that were postponed or even cancelled due to that Flowergeddon mess.

Where are the majority of the blooms happening? I was just at Blair this weekend and while everything is green I didn't see any flowers.

Usual popular areas of blooms are around Henderson Canyon Road and the alluvial fans that drain the Ysidro’s. Other areas can be just as good with less people.

Looked promising a couple days ago, but still not full speed yet.

There is a disheartening amount of Sahara Mustard around, including remote spots. Good to see it is being weeded out in some areas.

Ended up getting a Tepui Kukenan 3. Was planning on getting a clam shell design but ended up getting something that mounts on a bed rack and not on top of the vehicle. Have only had time for a couple overnights but so far I like it and haven't fallen going down the ladder. Yet. The important thing is the wife signed off on it cuz no bugs and snakes etc etc etc.

Nice camper set up you got there Surf. Nice you could stand up instead of putting on your gear laying down or outside. ( That would be me) I miss my old rig with my camper. The wife will only go Bed and Breakfast from now on. She does let me out to roam about in the wilderness fortunately :-)

Looks good Bob, sorry my son and I missed you...we ended up hiking 9 miles in the rain the next day. I remember when I had a 12' cab over on my old Chevy C20, very cozy when it started raining or got windy.

To my brother and myself. I had no room to store it so it's currently in Washington with him. Sadly the camper is long gone.

It looks like it gave way about halfway up the tower. The warranty must have just expired.

Need to hike up Carrizo canyon to those glyphs someday. Thanks for sharing. Retouching up the glyphs? The jury is out with me on that subject. It can go both ways. Preservation vs loss forever.

Things have been blooming since November from the fall rains. Lots of verbena, primrose, poppies, and desert sunflowers. It looked like the winter bloom was actually winding down a couple weeks ago with stuff going to seed. Spring bloom may just be getting growing. Everything was green a couple weeks ago. Despite all the rain in the city, not sure how much made it to the desert floor. Don’t know how good spring will be.

Just got back from the southern area and there were a lot of Sand Verbena, primrose in some of the washes.
Unfortunately i lost my phone with all my pictures near the Vallecito Creek turn off on my way out. 😫

it was a crazy trip, saw two overturned 18-wheelers off the 8 near the Tecate divide on my way out and then dropped into Ocotillo to find hundreds of semis parked along the S2 waiting out the wind.
Going to head out again tomorrow for another phone search but I think it is futile at this point.

Yeah, the verbena and primrose were still strong. The sunflowers and daisy's and other items had mainly already gone to seed a couple weeks ago in some of the washes I was in. Flowers are nice, flowergeddon is not.

Definitely starting to see lots of people out there this weekend. I am probably going to avoid the usual flower spots at the north end of the park for a while.
Sand verbena and primrose were widespread. Sunflowers in some areas. Strange it isn't all that green in some of the flower fields. Other areas are very green. Hopefully no flowergeddon like a couple years ago.

I love that "ocotillo illuminated by my bonfire" shot in the write up.

Carrizo creek north side end on Canyon Sin Nombre had a lot of flowers. The weekend I took the picture is was a zoo out there.

Was a casual weekend peakbagger till stumbling on this forum a decade ago and realizing everyone here had a real curiosity of the fauna/flora/geology/artifacts around them. Seems obvious, but have to say it really changed my perspective. Thanks everyone!

Nice! I don't think I've been to Indian Gorge at all this season. Or Fish Creek for that matter. Sometimes I get caught up in certain areas of the park and neglect others.
