Hiked the Bright Angel, Phantom Ranch, South Kaibab loop at the Grand Canyon on Friday, 5/2. Really good hike with pretty much ideal conditions. I've been to Grand Canyon a couple of times but never actually hiked to the river before. I would liked to have spent more time at the river but forecast was for 90 degrees at Phantom Ranch and i was worried about temps getting too warm on the climb out so didn't dally. Completed the hike in 7 hours 52 minutes total time. 17.6 miles, 40.2k steps, 2 tired feet.

My son, Kai, came with me and we spent 2 nights (Thurs and Fri) at Maswik Lodge. Kai wasn't up for the full hike so he just did a shorter hike on his own.

Sounds like a great trip with your son. He will never forget this trip! Your son is now a wilderness explorer for life.
Great pics. I love the Garmin track. I need to do something like that. Glad you beat the heat.
I read that that area of Arizona where the sedimentary rocks were formed prior to the Grand canyon forming was covered by an ocean at least 8 times! Rafting down the Colorado has been on my bucket list.

For some reason I thought the colorado river in the grand canyon was always a muddy brown. That water looks amazing! Nice trip

That bridge is amazing. It ends right into the cliff? Three hours down. How long to get back up. Beautiful photos and video. Did you take a dip in the river?

Took just under 3 and a half hours from river up to the rim. The forecast high for the gorge was 90 degrees and i was really concerned about it getting too hot for my climb out so i didn't dally at the river.
