Someone's Sentra at the Villager Peak trailhead along S22 with all 4 wheels missing ..
I don't know any details but assuming someone was doing an overnight up the trail. What a horrible way to end a hike.

Plot twist: The wheels are in the trunk as a super-strong security measure. Honestly though, that's messed up.

Here is the other side of the car, they stole everything inside and ruined the chassis with the boulders

I figured it was someone up the trail. Was your friend gone overnight or just a day hike?

That sucks.
Hope this does not become a thing out here. I haven't heard of this too much in Borrego before.
That is one of my fears, coming back to find a vehicle gone or destroyed and no cell reception.

The call box there didn't work either...just to polish off the problem. But the Park Rangers and Highway Patrol had already seen it and were helping out.

Oh no! Hope they catch the devil bastard(s). Man what a way to end a grueling hike. Maybe they knew each other in Borrego and was some sort of retaliation? I've parked there many times. I have left my ol' pick up parked for up to 2 weeks at a wilderness trail head. Only problem I ever had was critters chewing up my wiring harness.

So terrible. Let's hope it was an isolated incident. My sorrows to your partner Daren.

This is terrible! I think we all worry about ending an outing this way. Hope your buddy didn't lose anything of sentimental value Daren. My condolences as well. -Robert

so messed up, were they so desperate they stole the stock rims? hopefully his insurance company will take care of everything (except for the stolen items out of the vehicle) and it will be filed under his comprehensive coverage so his rates won't go up (I carry a $100 deductible on comp). It looks like a bent frame would mean a total loss?
I can relate to having a total loss in the desert...

The car was gone Wednesday morning. I parked at the same spot and did some cycling along S22. Not much in the way of wildflowers in northern park along S22 nor Henderson Canyon road. Some nice lush ocotillos in Coyote Canyon but not blooming yet. I camped Tuesday night along Ella Wash. Here's a picture of my campsite ..

I hate seeing this. Always a concern for me when leaving my car for an all day hike, but thankfully haven't been a victim yet. Some of these remote locations don't see enough traffic to discourage thieves and vandals. Hope it turned out OK insurance wise.

Good reason to always have your delorme InReach on yourself for just such occasions.
