Did a 24 hour solo trip to Vallecito / Sawtooth area again last weekend. Weather was pretty good, maybe low 80's during the day and about 50 at night. I mostly just needed to get out for a couple days and that is a good area with water. I picked up another radiosond and managed to find a new active water source. Wildlife was mostly birds, rabbits a dead coyote and tons of field mice at night running all over my gear and sleeping bag...I was kinda wishing I had Tom's tent that night.
This is probably 6 now and I have two I need to drop off at NOAA
There were a few cactus blooms on the hillsides
Busted metate next to spring pipe
Some mexican bottles near the water
Not sure if this was natural or predator induced
This must have been the calf trough
Anybody know these guys?
My custom made bivy sack & backpack in Pencott Badlands pattern
These guys came out like ants when the sun set, they were everywhere all over my gear and bivy sack
Total Mylar balloons - 5

Nice, Is that welding on the name signs? Looks like the Rattlers will have a field day with the field mice! Is that water bubbling out of the pipe? Looks like a fun outing.

Yeah, they just welded the names on there, kinda like tractors do on their different buckets and such. Bubbly water, yep....

Oh, I did see one snake...one super fast faded yellow looking one but he sped off into the brush before I could get a good look at him.

Cool. Going to try and hit Jacumba Jims mid summer to see what critters water at the springs.

Regarding the signs I found this. for J.D. Wright http://www.legacy.com/obituaries/sandiegouniontribune/obituary.aspx?n=rd-wright&pid=86337863 He had an adventurous spirit and enjoyed hunting, fishing, sailing and traveling/camping in Baja. That is a nice tribute .
This looks like Jim Graham's obituary but date is a little off https://www.legacy.com/obituaries/name/james-graham-obituary?pid=20504440&view=guestbook
Nice find Daren,

Nice finds and nice sandy bivy spot. With all those critters running around on your bivy sack, must have been a "interesting" night. Amazing you keep finding those NOAA beacons. I have yet to come upon one.

Looks like a nice trip Daren. Trail cam pointed at your campsite all night probably would have made a hilarious video.

Thanks for doing the research Bob, you dug up more than I was able to.
Yep, I would say hunting was in their blood, this was also there
