On my way back from dropping off the radio collar drove by Culp Valley and couldn't help but stop and check out the major fire that burned throught the area. Everything on the south side of montezuma valley road is burned.

Cilp Valley...notice the burned morteros
looking up toward wilson trail on pinyon ridge which looks like it was devastated
things haven't changed much eh?
anyone know what this is?

Wow, that is a lot of area burned. Maybe the troughs are / were for cattle watering back in the day? Though they look suspiciously ornate... It's good to have a pair of binoculars when walking near a burn area, because that's a good time to see / find animal bones that otherwise have been covered with vegetation for a long time.

Was this the fire that was started by a camper who dumped the campfire ashes from his/her metal fire container into the adjacent shrubs? Sad... anutami wrote:
