Question about avatar

Hi all! I'm new to the site and am trying to create an avatar but I'm having trouble getting a picture sized down enough to fit within the given parameters (150x150 pixels and max 15kb.) Every pic I try to shrink down ends up a microscopic square blob and is still too large to upload. Some of the avatars on the site are very high res so it seems I'm doing something wrong. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

It should be as simple as cropping out the part of the photo you want to use and then resize it. Maybe this link will help you..
