Daren, do you know if there is a certain age requirement? How long are you sitting waiting for? What about the temps?

Thanks

I do not know but I am guessing 18...you should email your now good buddy Ranger Steve who leads the BHS count program. You may be able to get a site that does not require much hiking and you could take your camper but you are *required* to be at the count site location from 7am-5pm for 2 days and then the third until about 1pm. Temps can reach 115+ so you need to consider that. Also, the park does not furnish you with anything except information about how to count, you are responsible for shade shelters, binoculars, scopes, pen/paper, food, water, etc...You could very well be sitting doing nothing for 3 days but you could also see lots of BHS, you never know.

If anything you should consider it a time to get away and bond with nature and mother heat....and rain if the monsoons come early....

I will be heading out tomorrow for the sheep count, hoping to get some good starry night photos. Last year we saw the rings on Saturn with our spotting scope. Don't even ask how much my camera gear plus binoculars weighs plus the 9 liters of water for the trip in and food for 4 days......

Good luck Daren. With the moon coming up so late the next few days you should have some dark skies and great views of the Milky Way. Stay cool and count them all.
