Just got into town after being gone for approx 3 weeks (hiked mt. Langley for the first time!!) to see a large plume of smoke in our backcountry looks like it is the Chariot Fire east of Sunrise Hwy, 9 miles southeast of Julian, It has already burned 2,500 acres and is 10% contained. Also the Laguna area is being evacuated
anyone know any info on this?

Just got home from the bighorn sheep count. Here is what we saw from Rattlesnake Spring, not sure how far away it was from us but all I had was my 500mm lens and my 7mm Fisheye so i used the 500mm. We only saw the smoke and flames and I guessed it was between Butterfield and Pioneer Mail.
Langley is a good trip, we did that one year to get over to Whitney without a permit but that has all changed now.

Mt Langley. Way to go! That was my first 14,000 ft peak I climbed years back. I found a real cool multi quartz crystal on the way up. Looking across at Whitney was so cool!
Been ubber HOT in ABDSP! I have friends who sold their house in Mission beach and bought a house in Borrego Springs. Will visit them in the fall. Hanging close to the coast or up in the mountians till then.
Chariot canyon is HUGE. Which part? the North towards the gate or towards oriFLAME canyon?
Almost bought a cabin back in the 90's overlooking Chariot canyon. View to the Salton Sea mud pots. Wonder if she is in the line of fire?

If the UT reported low counts I am not sure how they determined that, the total was the second highest recorded ever....but at a cost, the drought has dried up many of the reliable water sources and the sheep are desperate for water.
