I sold my truck this weekend so I am now looking for a pre-smog 4x4 vehicle, anybody know of something for sale? No more DPF full problems or $100 fuel filter changes every 15k miles....

Have you considered a regular fuel 4x4. The new ones are pretty darn good. I am partial to Toyotas. Pre-smog vehicles are getting pretty slim these days condidering all the "crush all old car/truck" programs by big brother over the years. Heck even my 67' Ford 390 has air injection and pvc valve.

Wow that is big news. Will keep my eyes open. Are you looking for another full size?

I am looking at Toyota trucks, oldest I can find so far are '80 models with the 22r engine. Also looking at American trucks, I miss my old '67 C20 long bed and my IH Travelall, shoulda kept that.
Bob, that truck was a money pit and the smog related problems with it and many newer ones were just going to be problematic so it was time to get rid of it. I can't see myself without having a truck to haul stuff around it so that is what I will probably be getting.

Yeah sounds like you were smart to get rid of it. I may know of an 1981 Toyota PU 4x4 coming up for sale soon Still has to be smogged but Carb was just replaced
Oldest Toyota 4x4 you are going to find will be a 1979 and I am sure there are not too many of those around PLus 1976 and newer vehicles will have to be smogged unless of course they are diesel

Forget the monster trucks, Daren. Your motorcycle background and "go light" philosophy means this just might be the one! With the Ural Gear-Up's 2WD, gazillion mpg and that new fancy winch, the desert is your oyster Tom http://www.imz-ural.com/2013-ural-gear-up/

@Bob: Any more info on that '83? I looked at a couple yesterday, if you know of one that is in good shape I am ready to buy.
@Tom: I like that, there was a couple in Death Valley a few years back when I went that had one of those. They trailered it out every year they said and spend Thanksgiving week tooling around the back roads.

Congrats! Those 4x4 Toyotas go just about anywhere you want to go even in 2wd. Switch to full 10w-40 full sythnetic oil if they haven't done it already. Again congrats. The Desert beckens!

Sweet ride! I had an '89 that went all over the park without issue, only got rid of it because it didn't want to haul two dirt bikes and a trailer. Hope to see you out there in it!

That looks like me a few weeks back when I took the new (to me) SR5 out to Mine/Pinyon Wash, I had all my junk in the bed with a bungie net holding everything in place...nothing fits inside my cab anymore!!

Can't have everything. At least the Toyota will get you further into to some of those remote places

It looks similar to my rokon and side car that I never get a chance to use. I should consider trading it in for a dual sport but it is just too cool.
