Do you have any trips from Borrego?
You mean Borrego Springs?
Actually, I have hiked almost every corner of the ABSP, but still have some unrealized trips and new ideas like: Lorenzen's Peak (aka 6582) Toro - Villager (Santa Rosa) Full Traverse, a couple of new routes to Whale Peak (from June wash and through Bisnaga Wash) Red Top Mountain (looks rugged) etc.
I will share my best trips as soon as I prepare them for EveryTrail. |

Great Plan! I have a similar idea. Washes in this particular area are more preferable then ridges, so I am going to use Bisnaga Wash as much as I can and use Smuggler Canyon for an easy descent (hiked it to Whale Peak several times). I am going to try it on next week. edited by Alexey on 3/24/2011 |

BTW, what did you eat on your trip? Did you see anything unusual ? Did you see the indian trail crossing at the ridge line coming up from the Santa Rosa Indian Ruins over to Martinez canyon? Awesome hike!
I have mountaineering background and prefer Mountain House dry food (http://www.mountainhouse.com). Actually, taking to account the total waterless, you can use some prepared food (like soup or main dish) from a grocery store, but I like to operate water in my way. I saw some unusual thing during this trip http://www.everytrail.com/view_trip.php?trip_id=931965 near Palm Mesa, you can look at photos. There are no distinct trails from Martinez and Nicolas canyons now. |

Epic trip, thanks for posting those photos! It sounds like you were expecting the gate to Toro to be closed.... how much longer would your trip have been if the gate were closed? edited by ziphius on 3/24/2014
The gate is closed due to winter season till May by BLM, you can check the gate status here:
Santa Rosa and San Jacinto Mountains National Monument Visitor Center 51-500 Highway 74 Palm Desert, California 92260 Phone: (760) 862-9984
But the gate is often open by contractors doing some equipment maintenance on the top.
There are additional 11 miles and about 5000 ft elevation gain from the gate to the trail head. That (and additional 5-6 liters of water) means a full exhausting day with a very heavy backpack. edited by Alexey on 3/24/2014 |

-Florian I am talking about the huge new gate installed right on the highway about 4 years ago. The gate near the top has a no-trespassing sign (the indian reservation land). The trailhead starts from the pullout right before this gate. edited by Alexey on 3/24/2014 |

I'd love to see your report but your link just spins and spins for me, never loads the page, tried yesterday too. You are right. Looks like everytrail server has some problems right now, but, in general, this is a very good service to share your tracks. If everybody knows the better one, please share you experience. |
