I use to think model airplanes and gas helicopters were cool (well helicopters still are). Daren,
Have you ever noticed that large "barn" like building along S22 east of the BS airport. It's on the north-south portion of S22 about halfway between the Pegleg marker and the corner where the dump road joins. The guy flies model planes there all the time. I've seen them multiple times. Haven't seen a model helicopter there yet but maybe someday. I was just camping on Friday night out near Arroyo Salado and went for bike ride on Sat and he had a plane up when i rode by.

I have heard there are exposed mammoth (mastodon?) footprints in the Font's Wash area. I've poked around a few times but haven't found them. Anyone familiar with this?
Thanks.

We could still see some ot the old road to Jack Miller in places but most of it was washed out. Couldn't figure out how he got throught The Narrows but the topo map and GE seems to indicate he went over the ridge to the north. Definitely looks like it would be a challenge to maintain. Yes, the road goes around the narrows on the north side. You can still see parts of it on the mesa above the drainage NE of the narrows. At least you could a few years ago.

Does this look like the air shots were taken with a drone? I think I can see the operator at about 40 seconds into it. https://youtu.be/ljSsogtMiDg Definitely a drone. You an even see the drone's carrying case on the ground. DesertUSA.com should know better.

This is the movie that was filmed in the AB desert a year or so ago ..

Font's Point is one of the locations and should be recognizable to most of us. Also i'm pretty sure the second image of Tye Sheridan is along Ella Wash. In fact i think it's the exact smoketree that i often camp next to! I'd noticed the area around the tree seemed somewhat disturbed once when i was there after the movie had completed filming.

Not sure which category to put this under so i'll just drop it here. There was a bunch of spam posts recently that didn't get cleaned up for a few days. I'd be happy to volunteer as an additional moderator for this forum if desired. Frankly i'm not sure who is in charge of the forums or i'd have asked directly and not with a public post. I've moderated various outdoor forums in the past. Currently i'm a moderator for the mtsanjacinto.info forum as well as some facebook groups. Just offering to help.

Does Wordpress have a "forum" type feature where it's easy to see new comments and follow various conversations?

I really like being able to follow multiple topics via a forum type site. Wordpress is good for blogging but not so sure it encourages conversations. But i'm adaptable.

The blog portion will continue to be separate from the forum. I agree the forum encourages conversation. Just need to get rid of the spam posts. Are there any options in the forum software where first-time posters need to be approved by an admin? That's what we do on the San Jacinto forum and it works pretty well.

2. Sort order of messages now seems to be "newest first", how to change? I like how things are sorting right now. I always start on the 'recent topics' page and that is sorting newest topic on top. Then when i open a thread individual posts sort oldest to newest. That's the most logical way in my opinion. Working well for me so far.
Planning a quick day trip to the northern AB tomorrow too!

Someone's Sentra at the Villager Peak trailhead along S22 with all 4 wheels missing ..
I don't know any details but assuming someone was doing an overnight up the trail. What a horrible way to end a hike.

The car was gone Wednesday morning. I parked at the same spot and did some cycling along S22. Not much in the way of wildflowers in northern park along S22 nor Henderson Canyon road. Some nice lush ocotillos in Coyote Canyon but not blooming yet. I camped Tuesday night along Ella Wash. Here's a picture of my campsite ..

Anza Borrego Wildflower Update

Camped Tuesday night (3/15) in northern AB. Lovely afternoon and evening but not a whole lot going on re wildflowers. Some brown-eyed primrose and a few desert lily already gone to seed around Arroyo Salado and Truckhaven areas. Henderson Canyon road area quite a lot of sunflowers past prime and some dune primrose but not a lot else. Ocotillos vary from green and lush to looking rather poor. But frankly, i prefer when the wildflowers are subdued. Less people and less problems with my allergies.

The movie 'Last Days in the Desert' filmed in the AB desert in 2014 is now in the iTunes store. Also on Amazon i think. I'm not a movie critic, nor am i religious, and the story moved slowly without much point in my opinion. Our beautiful Anza-Borrego desert is the star. Many scenes filmed at Fonts Point and nearby washes.

I came down Monday. Busier then normal around Borrego Springs but not unbearable. Spent Mon night in southern part of park. Much quieter in the south. Back in BS today (Tues) using library's wifi. Planning to camp somewhere out near Arroyo Salado tonight. Conditions are beautiful! edited by Florian on 3/14/2017 |
